I love Instagram
stalking scrolling & finding some amazing new products! Some of them a bit of a hit & miss, & often they are overseas based beauty houses so I am always super chuffed when I find one that is Proudly South African.
Last month I came across a company called CHICK.cometics & reached out to them on Instagram to ask for advice on what some of their most popular products are, & what they would advise I start off with. I was really impressed with their customer service & the fact that I had a response within an hour with a really sweet message & lots of info about their different products.
Spending some time on their website, I was really intrigued by their different products. They don’t have a massive range which I actually like as I can get overwhelmed & then end up just closing the website & giving up. It’s also really cool the way it has little pop-ups that show you what is being bought at that time so you can see what is popular with the public. Plus if you are following them on social media, they let you know when they have discount codes so you can apply this to your shopping cart – BONUS! They seem to have sales quite often as well so there really is no excuse.
I decided to buy 3 products to start with – the CHICK.Body Activated Charcoal Scrub; Fairy Glitter Palette – Twinkie; & #Mineral Liquid Foundation – Honey (Light). When choosing my shipping option, I chose the 4-5 working days as I wasn’t in a huge rush for these & it was cheaper than the overnight shipping.
I was so excited when my parcel arrived the following Monday & I dashed inside to open it up! Your order comes in a beautiful pink shoebox type box, & all your products are all wrapped in pink bubble wrap (not an excessive amount which I appreciate given that we have an overload of plastic!). There was also a little not telling me how to get the palette out without damaging it, an advertisement for their new product coming soon & a “No Bad Days” pic that is now stuck on my fridge as a little motivation.
I opened it all straight away & was slightly confused – I had received a eyeliner & much darker foundation than I had ordered, but I did get the scrub that I wanted. I immediately sent them an email, & got a response apologising for this & they said they would send me the correct products to arrive the following week. Mistakes happen every day in life, & I really appreciated the way they dealt with this as well as the customer care that I received from them. It makes the world of difference when the company actually cares about the consumer!
Given the above, the first product I could try out was the Activated Charcoal Scrub. There were 4 different scrubs that I could choose from including Himalayan Pink Salt, Coconut Milk Scrub; & Matcha Body Scrub. I went with the charcoal as this seems to be the “in” ingredient lately & I wanted to try it out for myself.
Love Charcoal? I’m an all natural body scrub so let’s start by getting you undressed and slowly exfoliating your dry skin with my sea salt . Then I’ll start to nourish your body with my activated charcoal and Avocado oil, which will do wonders for you. I will further enrich your skin with my jojoba oil to keep you feeling soft and cleansed into the night. I’ll reach all parts of your body and have you feeling amazing with essential vitamins and minerals. All that I ask in return, is that you make use of my skills twice a week.”

How to use : Start off by getting a little bit wet. Cover your body with me and rub in a circular motion. Add additional water to your skin to dilute as needed, then rinse.
Chick tip: Don’t let water get inside the jar. Use a spoon and bowl or dry your hands before taking a dip in my jar. Please make sure to seal me up after use and keep in a cool, dry place.
This product is not tested on animals & is proudly South African. I tried it out the very next morning on both my face & body. I was a little nervous about using the scrub on both areas as my face is very sensitive & often reacts to scrubs, but they claimed it was safe so I went right ahead. Firstly, I have to say that the product smells AMAZING. With the warmth of your hands it seems to melt so it is a bit softer, but you can really feel it working on your skin without it sloughing off your skin & leaving you feeling completely raw. I had been battling with a bit of back acne due to my meds (gross I know), & after using this twice the spots have all gone! It has a salty taste (when I washed it off my face some got into my mouth!) & this is probably my favourite exfoliator that I have tried in some time.
There are only 2 negatives about it, but if you are aware about these then you won’t have to worry. My husband has extremely oily skin & big pores, & the scrub seemed to settle in these, so he went to work with what looked like blackheads all over his face, but was actually a little bit of leftover scrub. I also made the mistake of not removing it properly from my hair line so when I dried myself it got transferred onto my towel & we have battled to get rid of this black mark. But, these were our own fault so I really can’t fault this scrub in the slightest!
Next I tried the product that I had been sent in error – Creamy Color Liner: Tequila.
You’ll never run out of ways to line and define your eyes and lips. Available in 6 colors, they sport a pigmented formula that smudges nicely and wears well without creasing or fading on to the eyes. The texture is creamy and glides on very easily.
Ingredients: C10-18 Triglycerides Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil , Caprylic /Capric Triglyceride, Talc ,Rhus Succedanea Cera ,Tocopherol , Ascorbyl Palmitate ,May contain +/- CI 77007 ,CI 7740 ,CI 77492 , Mica CI 16035 ,CI 19140 ,CI 42090 ,CI 77000 , CI 77163 ,CI 77266 ,CI 77288 ,CI 77742 ,CI 75470 ,CI 774921.
Often new eyeliners can be quite scratchy & it can take a few tries to get a smooth line on your eyes, but this really did what it claimed to in that it was smooth, creamy & glided on easily. It lasted the whole day without transferring onto my eyelid. I actually really loved this colour. It is not one I would have chosen for myself, but fate was obviously on my side when I got sent this! Its like a gold/bronze colour & is really stunning. It isn’t very bright but would complete your eye make-up beautifully.
By the following week my missing products had arrived, as well as a UNICORN SHIMMER SCRUB that they had included to apologise for their error. You guys – UNICORN. SHIMMER. SCRUB. I literally felt like a kid as I squealed when I saw it!
So, this was definitely first on my list to try out! It is a new product of theirs that is available here & ever since I had seen their little ad in my previous box, I knew this was something that I really wanted to try out. They claim that it gives you a shimmer & I was interested to see if this was real & how my skin felt afterwards.

Let me start by saying that you need to follow their instructions to get maximum benefit. So you can’t use it when you want a quick in & out shower! I used it over the weekend when I could properly enjoy it & let the scrub sit on my skin for the full 3 minutes. As I opened the package, the essential oils from the product drifted out & it just smelt heavenly. You could definitely feel that this was a scrub as you apply it all over your body, & when washing it off you can feel that your skin has been moisturised at the same time. I went outside into the natural light & I was literally SHIMMERING! It wasn’t like I had applied glitter on my body, but there was a sheen on my body that was absolutely stunning. Throughout the day I could feel how much smoother & softer my skin was, & I was really impressed that all their claims are actually true!
I don’t know about you guys, but I have really been battling to find a foundation that really suits my skin tone, applies smoothly & covers my blemishes without feeling heavy. I am extremely pale & often foundations are too dark on me, or make me look orange! So buying a foundation online without being able to swatch this on my skin did make me a bit nervous, but again their Customer Care was amazing & they offered their advice.

MILD ON ALL SKIN TYPES
I applied a little onto my chin area to see how well the colour blended in with my skin, & was pleasantly surprised at how good it looked. I don’t normally wear a lot of make-up during the week unless I have a meeting, so I just used the foundation & a little mascara & when I walked into the office I was told that I was looking “healthy & refreshed”. That’s always a bonus! The foundation has a dewy finish & is extremely light. It covered what I wanted covered without it clumping or making my face look completely different. At the end of the day I still had coverage, but it was easy to remove with make-up wipes & didn’t leave any residue or stickiness. This is a great product, & I love the fact that it is rich in vitamins & antioxidants.
The last product that I have from CHICK.comsetics was the Fairy Glitter Palette – Twinkie. I have bought many glitter eyeshadow palettes before & they have been a massive fail so I was a little nervous about this!!
Their website claims that these are highly pigmented, soft creamy and smooth glitter eyeshadows.
How to use: Dip your finger into the color you want and transfer it to your eyelid by tapping the glitter on. Be careful not to get these in your eyes.
Ingredients: Mica ,Titanium Dioxide ,Simmondsia Chinensis ( Jojoba ) Extract , Dimethicone ,Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit ) Seed Extract ,Usnea Barbata (Wildecrafted Lichen ) extract ,inulin : May Contaub ( +/-) : Iorn Oxide ( C .1 77491 ,77492 ,77499) , Titanium Dioxide ( C.1 77891) . Carmine ( C.1.75470) ,Chromium Oxides ( C.1. 77289) , Ultramarine Blue ( C,I.77007) Manganese Violet ( C.1 77742)
I had an event yesterday & decided to pull these out & give them a go. Rubbing my finger into the palette I could feel the bits of glitter, but it was also quite smooth. Now that sounds completely contradictory, but the actual product was very soft! It was highly pigmented & applied onto my eyelid without leaving much behind on my finger. I often experience fall-out with glitter shadows, but I was pleasantly surprised that there was none of this when I was applying it. I had a really busy day; did Walk the Talk in support of Rare Diseases SA & then had a nap when I got home. Throughout this none of the eyeshadow came off or transferred onto my clothing or pillow – I mean, how is that possible?? Its like magic! Take it off was a little tricky & I had to go over my eyes a couple of times with my make-up cleanser, but that is to be expected with glitter; & when I little got into my eyes it didn’t burn & was easy to remove.
Overall, I am super impressed with CHICK.cosmetics – both their products & customer service. Their website is very user friendly, they are active on social media & I have literally been impressed by every product I have received from them. Although they did send me some incorrect products initially, things like this do happen. We are all human & we cannot expect everything to be perfect. What matters most is the actual product & whether the people behind the brand actually care about their customers – which they do. I would definitely recommend checking them out & giving them a try. I know that I will be ordering from them in the future & definitely want to try some more of their eyeshadow palettes etc.
My number one product? The unicorn shimmer scrub of course!
