Bitchin’ Tees

I know, it has been a while since my last blog. The last few weeks have been a blur, with many days rolling into one another, and 12 hour workdays becoming the norm. I feel like I am on a hamster wheel, and could be thrown off at any moment. BUT, I love the work that I do and am so grateful that I do still have a job after lockdown.

My feature today is on a small business that has been on my radar for some time, and I am so excited to be able to feature Bitchin’ Tees on my blog today, as I am sure that you will love Corne and her business as much as I do – plus she makes unicorn gin, which obviously peaked my curiosity even more!

I can’t wait for you to read more about her, get to know this business better, and I am sure that you will want many of her creations for yourself (and your friends).

Your name: Corne Nell

Business name: Bitchin’ Tees

Social media handles: Website, Instagram and Facebook

3 fun facts about you:
I am a jeans and tshirts kinda girl.
Although I am a very proud South African, I am very much a wannabe American – I want to celebrate all of their holidays… I am sure you would have noticed I am an avid follower of Hastag holidays. Any excuse to celebrate.
Apart from our Gin, champagne is my fav drink.

Tell me a little more about what you do:
I am a Tax Accountant by day – I work for an international IT firm’ headoffice where I look after the tax affairs of the South African entities. But by night, my the tshirt ninja makes her appearance. 😊
I studied at RAU / UJ, and I have a masters degree in South African and International Taxation. That kept the left brain Corne happy until I had kids. I started needing a creative outlet….and just after my last baby, I had the slogan tee brainwave. I have always loved slogan tees and my pinterest boards were and still is full of them. My husband has an entrepreneurial streak and he always said I should start up a little business of my own, and boom, the rest is history.

What makes your tees so special:
My tees are made by a mom, for moms! I felt the need to make lovely mommy tees and some passive agressive or quirky tees for those tough mommy days that no one really talks about. I wanted to make mamas smile amid parenting chaos. I wanted moms to feel heard. Bitchin Tees aims to celebrate all the beautiful, quirky, and funny moments of being a mom but keeping it real by letting the t-shirts say what is really on their minds.

What pushed you to start this business:
The need to eventually own my own time is what pushed me to start Bitchin’ Tees. My kids are getting bigger, and I want to be there for them as they need me for school activities etc. Also as mentioned, my husband has this entrepreneurial streak and he encouraged me to start something that I could call my own. Bitchin’ tees is my 4th baby – probably the girl that everyone keeps asking about. lol 😊

I see you have recently added gin to your range – please tell me about these:
This was all my husband. Before lockdown, he and one of his best friends ordered a copper still from Spain – for a hobby…then lockdown happened, and the delivery of our pot was seriously delayed.
Between the first and second alcohol ban, our pot managed to get through the borders and delivered. They then started playing around with rum, whiskey brandy and gin… and we called it Prohibition, cause we were in prohibition. 😊
We were doing research on gins, and flavours and I got the idea of adding edible glitter to our gin, to make it pretty….. and if you know me, you know I like anything and everything with pink, glitter and sparkle. During the research, we found our flagship flavour and an FDA approved alcohol glitter… and BOOM, “Unicorn” was born. At this point, our fantasy range was born and we have a range of gins which are as delicious as they are beautiful to look at! Magical Unicorn, Enchanted Galaxy and Mischievous Mermaids are some of the flavours in the range.

Why do you encourage people to support small businesses:
You know that old saying saying “hand made with love”…. This is why I support small businesses and would like people to support small business. I take so much care in each and every t-shirt that gets made. Getting to know my customer, why they want the slogan they have chosen and getting to be part of their everyday lives when they send me pics with them in their tees. From there a friendship blooms. They know that they are not only invoice number 2689, they are an actual person with a name. In it makes me feel amazing that I get to make a difference in someones lives… to make them feel special.

Do you do custom orders: I do – 60% of my orders are custom. 😊 again, that’s why building the relationship mentioned above is so important for me.

How can people order from you:
Online via my website.
Via Whatsapp 082 579 9648
Via email: hello@bitchintees.co.za

What have been your most popular items:
The most popular items by far were our naughty valentines briefs! Mama’s still got it for their hubbies! Lol.
Quarantine Father’s day and Mother’s day apparel was huge for obvious reasons.
After that – our Tjommies tee was a winner. This was inspired by the owner of Jelebebe Thea Jonker! A bunch of times, my friends just sends me pics of tees and I try it out. And this one was by far a hit.
Our Harry Potter Baby Items was a winner – I have a whole bunch of clients raising little wizards!

What is your personal favourite item: Anything and everything WONDER Woman and glitter …. And there is one specific cup, that I love.

Quote you live by:
Ignorance is bliss. Most of my successful endeavours were achieved when I did not know what was coming my way. If I had known, I might never have gone for it, I might have been too afraid.

Anything else you want to add:
I want Bitchin Tees to be a one-stop shop of happiness for everyone who visits my store. A shop where moms (ladies) can come to shop mainly for themselves, whilst adding little goodies for the rest of the family in the cart as well. We started with ladies T-shirts, and we added caps, tote bags, cups, baby onesies and dad tees to the site. We also now have the gin range, and we have also added the prohibition range of whiskey, rum and brandy to our shop.

Corne, you are SUCH a joy, and I have loved getting to know you better. I can’t wait until we can meet for our cake and coffee, and I definitely need some of that Unicorn Gin in my house!

Please support this stunning business for any custom orders, gift ideas, and just to spread a little more kindness in the world. You won’t regret it.

I have been LOVING experimenting with new makeup, and recently I saw a post from Marie on one of the Facebook groups I am part of, and I was instantly drawn to her charismatic personality as well as her gorgeous makeup that she has created.  She has just launched a new eyeshadow palette, and it has given me all the feels – I can’t wait to get my hands on it (as well as everything else on her website!), and I am sure that you will feel the same when you see the beauty that is MlsBeauty!

Your name: Marie-Louise but I prefer Marie

Business name: Mlsbeauty (Marie-Louise’s Beauty lol), boring I know.

Tell me a little more about your business: I first started as a makeup artist about 7 years ago. I’ve always been inspired by American and British makeup artists and brands and always tried to import products from these countries. I saw the need to bring diversity in terms of makeup in SA and launched my cosmetics line 2 years ago.

How long have you been doing makeup for: About 7 years ago. I was looking for a simple eyebrow tutorial on YouTube and became hooked.

Why does makeup make you so happy: It’s a refuge for me. When I’m upset I grab a brush and just go with the flow. When things fall into place I’m suddenly in a good mood.

What pushed you to start your own makeup line: The need of diversity in the South African Beauty Market.

What is your personal favourite item from your range: Can I pick 2? Cause they are really good. The Black Magic Palette and the Matte Lipstick in Negra, it’s a warm chocolate brown, I mix it with different lipsticks from the range.

109485031_3007906142590097_3890657857063042687_o

What have been your most popular items: The Matte lipsticks, so far. But there’s a growing interest for the Black Magic Palette. The Black Magic is pretty versatile in colours but is still a neutral palette. I didn’t want to create a palette full of brown shades only, we needed a palette that’s lively, magical but still wearable.

How much do you charge for makeup application:  My makeup rates start from R550.

I see you do makeup lessons too – how can people book with you: People can contact me through emails, DM or WhatsApp. I’m working on a bookings section on my website.

What makes your makeup brand so different to others: Inclusivity in every sense of the word. I wanted to create a brand that caters to everyone and where everyone can identify themselves.

Squishy Tushy

There is currently a lot of drama on social media within the blogger community – and beyond.  I don’t wish to get into it in this post, but I had to mention it, as this is how I first discovered Squishy Tushy.  And this is the reason that I am adding my voice to the #DontShushMe movement here in South Africa.  No longer can I just keep quiet as I see my black friends hurt and judged, or my LGBTQ+ friends marginalized and unable to live freely.  In this day and age, racism and homophobia should not exist, and sadly, it still does.  This movement has made me spend a lot of time looking deep within myself, and realise that by saying nothing, I am adding my voice to those doing the judging.  South African businesses are often not reflecting the beauty of our rainbow nation, and speaking to influencers has reminded me how often the perfect blonde-hair, blue-eyed child is used in advertising campaigns and their mother chosen for brand reviews.  How is that relatable to so much of South Africa? And why are we not speaking up about this?

Nuriyah has had #DontShushMe shirts printed to show support for  this movement, and a portion of the profits are going to be donated to a charity that empowers people of colour.  I ordered one of my own, and then realised that I needed to get to know this strong woman a little more!

What are 3 fun facts about you:
1. I love to create art / DIY.
2. I am a beginner photographer.
3. I love doing things spontaneously, I don’t mind if it wasn’t planned. I love an adventure and am almost always keen. Let’s take a trip!

Tell me a bit more about your business:
I started Squishy Tushy almost 1 year ago when I had my 3rd baby girl, Israh. I am a natural creative, so I felt the need to create. This is how a lot of baby brands are started. The thing I love the most is deciding on designs, having the fabric printed, and then seeing it come to life.
I come from a digital marketing background so another aspect I LOVE is doing marketing campaigns, checking the stats and finding out how I can do better.
We are still very new to the industry so I am still learning as I go. it is not as easy as it looks, especially when you are a one man show like me 🙂 I do EVERYTHING except sew. Even down to building my own website 🙂

Where did the passion for these come from:
From being a mom, a creative soul, and having the need to constantly create.

Tell me about your #DontShushMeShirt:
There are very important conversations going on on social media at the moment. This hashtag was used by a group of mommy bloggers. To show my solidarity I decided to create these tee’s. This is not the first time I did this. In March when another local brand made obscene posts about Jews, I created a tee that reads “regretively” as they used this word accidentally. I am donating the profit from those tees to the holocaust centre here in CT.
With the don’t shush me tees, R50 from each tee will go to a POC charity which will be determined by the mommy bloggers. I love advocating for those who need a voice so even though it has nothing to do with baby clothing, I have the fully functioning ecommerce website and I have the tools to make these tees (yes I cut and press the designs myself), so why not? I have no problem using my platform and voice to help the next person. We are also busy with GBV tees for another NGO, as well as make tees for Milk Matters and R50 of each sale goes to the preemie babas. Ok, I totally went off track but it is all relative.

What is your personal favourite product:
Definitely the rib rompers as well as the printed zip onesies.

Yesterday I received my very own T.Knots creation and I immediately knew where I was going to hang it.  This has a place of pride at our front door, in our little patio area.  It looks stunning, and even husband agrees!  I cannot wait to tell you more about this wonderful woman and show you more of her work.

Macramé is a form of textile produced using knotting (rather than weaving or knitting) techniques.

The primary knots of macramé are the square (or reef knot) and forms of “hitching”: various combinations of half hitches. It was long crafted by sailors, especially in elaborate or ornamental knotting forms, to cover anything from knife handles to bottles to parts of ships.

Cavandoli macramé is one variety that is used to form geometric and free-form patterns like weaving. The Cavandoli style is done mainly in a single knot, the double half-hitch knot. Reverse half hitches are sometimes used to maintain balance when working left and right halves of a balanced piece.

In my previous blog about the Tiny Dollhouse, I said that my ideal room would have a macrame wall hanging, and now I actually have one of my own in my home!  I know that I will definitely be getting more of these stunning pieces, and definitely have my eye on some of the plant hangers as I have been wanting more greenery inside for ages – especially with the theme of our bedroom and the generosity of space that we are blessed with.

When I showed my mum my new acquisition last night, she said they used to have similar items hanging in their home and I think it is so amazing that trends seem to do a full circle and always return.

Don’t forget to enter our giveaway on both Instagram and Facebook if you would like to own some very special pieces from South African businesses – or place your order for a unique piece.

Veg Out

Recently my husband & I began a healthy eating & lifestyle plan, & when I realised just how expensive this was going to be, I literally shuddered.  I am having to go to the shops every second or third day to buy fresh fruit & veggies, & these often go vrot before we get a chance to finish them all.  I knew there had to be an easier way of doing this.  I feel like the big supermarkets often mark up their fresh produce excessively, & these often seem to be at the end of their shelf life too – which means they have a very short life span.

And then, I heard about this amazing company called Veg Out through one of my Facebook groups.  Casey will fill a crate with fresh fruit & veggies, & deliver this right to your door!  I immediately contacted her, & placed an order with her for the 2 of us.  She makes her deliveries every Monday for the week, & I waited in anticipation for our crate of happiness.

I was not disappointed.  It was jam-packed with fruit & veggies that we enjoy, as well as a beautiful bunch of flowers to brighten my home.  I had also ordered some of her homemade bread which went down an absolute treat!  Casey asks if there is anything that you don’t eat/enjoy (no brussel sprouts for me thanks!) & thus you are guaranteed to be able to whip up a healthy, tasty meal with everything she provides.  This beautiful lady deserves all the support possible & I can’t wait for you to learn more about her & her business.

Tell me a bit more about what you do: I started this fruit and veg delivery service to supply great quality produce at prices far below the grocery store price point. I’m passionate about experiencing new foods. trying new recipes and living outside the classic meat & potato meal. Produce gets delivered in crates and is plastic free; with berries and such rather in brown paper bags. I want to be locally responsible, sustainably sourced and reduce my customers overall footprint by minimising their travel and plastic consumption.

Where did the passion for healthy eating come from: having kids; wanting to live longer to know them longer; and give them that better start and relationship with food.

Where do you deliver these crates to: JHB North area; within 5km of Lonehill is free and R25 per 5 km further afield. So R75 for 20km from my house etc.

What are the additional things you do: Peanut butter in glass jars made by a good friend, homemade rusks by my friends mom, homemade bread and natural health bars, so far.

What is the cost of your crates of goodies: 1-2 people is R225 for 7 veg and 4 fruit (x enough for 2 people) and 3-4 is R350. Coming soon I have braai, brunch, juicing and introducing-baby-to-solids boxes.

What is your personal favourite fruit & veg: I love spinach; I have since I used to eat it out the garden as a kid. And strawberries for the win.

Please share your favourite healthy recipe with us: Definitely this one but I add in patty pans and marrows for maximum veg goodness. Even my kids polish it off.

TanFabulous

I am THAT pale girl.  I get asked if I am a vampire, if I am wearing stockings when my white legs show, & if I spend any amount of time in the sun I simply come out looking like a lobster.

39nUXp9

Source: Imgur

At school I remember being so envious of all the “cool kids”  for their tans from their overseas island holidays, & their healthy glow that just radiated from them.  Perhaps if I had a tan I could tap into that level of cool & garner some of their confidence?

So I invested in some self tan.

I SLATHERED that stuff on daily & you could smell the coconutty scent from a mile away (if you have ever been a self-tanner you know exactly what I am talking about!).  I was ORANGE.  Yes, there may have been a subtle edge of tan, but mainly I was orange.  And my hands, feet, elbows & knees were a darker shade so gave away the fact it wasn’t natural – just in case people weren’t convinced by the unnatural pumpkin-tinge.

5yMJbJ9

And then, I went to buy foundation & they didn’t have a colour to match my skin tone.  Yip, I was too pale.  The Ivory was too yellow, & the Porcelain too dark.  I looked ridiculous.  The lady at the shop looked at me in horror as she stuttered through telling me she didn’t know what I could do – perhaps I could add some white to a foundation & pray to the make-up gods that it would suit me?

NVSjKUs

Source: Imgur

The mocking & laughter at my expense got to me, & I gave up on attempting to fix this myself.  I could no longer be a walking carrot, & perhaps I should just embrace my pale-ness.  I told myself: “pale is the new tan”, but deep down the years of not fitting in & feeling like an outcast was heavy on my heart.

WhatsApp Image 2019-11-23 at 07.41.53

And then, I discovered the joy of spray tanning!  How had I missed out on this for so long?  No more dark brown hands from applying it, no more of that giveaway scent of the self-tanner, & it gave an even glow to my entire body!  I felt like I had found my very own happy place & would no longer inspire people around me to wear their sunglasses when they look at me.

Adrienne from TanFabulous Spray Tanning (Facebook & Instagram) invited me into her home & I instantly felt relaxed & welcomed.  I felt comfortable, & she explained the procedure from pre- to post-care so well that I knew that I had found my happy place.

People often complain that their spray tan doesn’t last as long, or that they aren’t happy with how patchy it turns out.  I have had over 6 spray tans with Adrienne, & have never once left disappointed or unhappy with how it has turned out.  This really showed me the importance of exfoliating often before my tan, as well as wearing loose clothing immediately after the event.  She now stocks the most gorgeous kaftans as well as too many people were arriving in clothing that would have rubbed off half of the tan before they got home!

Adrienne & me in our gorgeous kaftans

Adrienne uses a product called Norvell, which is the tanning product that is rated number one Sunless Tanning Brand in the world.  If you take care of it, it should last at least 8-10 days.  It is natural-looking (NOT orange!), has a beautiful gentle Summery scent, & is used worldwide.  Adrienne also offers both the Venetian Solution (Designed to match skin colors found on the beautiful beaches of the European Riviera. Best-selling, proprietary sunless formula created with VIO-7™, a unique blend of anti-orange bronzer pigments, designed to counter an unwanted orange undertone for a natural-looking tan. Offered as instant cosmetic bronzers with extended or rapid tans), or the Rapid Tan Solution (Creator of 1 hour rapid tanning technology.  Gives client the ability to control the depth of color to rinse in as little as 1 hour)– depending on your needs.

If you have Pale Girl Problems like me, then you need to give sunless tanning a try!

Give Adrienne a call before you leave on your glamorous Summer vacay, & enjoy feeling tanned & healthy.

I would really like to thank Adrienne for making me her TANbassador, & always ensuring that my tan is on point.  I feel beautiful & healthy whenever I leave her house, & her positive, bubbly energy just fills my heart with so much joy.

You can book your appointment through her social media channels, or by giving her a call on 083 601 2291.  She is based in Lonehill, Sandton & offers great discounts when you do group bookings (yay for Matric Dances or Weddings!), or when you do a bulk booking (i.e. 4 or more appointments booked).

I will leave you with some more pics of my fabulous tan as it develops just to entice you a little further!

In The Jacaranda’s

I feel truly blessed to have a friend who takes the most stunning pictures.

Meghan McCabe has shot my entire family, including my animals & every time I lose my breath as I look through the final results.

I am certainly no model. I am overweight, I am clumsy, & I end up laughing my way through every shoot.  But Meghan makes me feel comfortable & beautiful – & isn’t that what we all need?

This is my absolute favourite time of the year & seeing the gorgeous purple flowers from the Jacaranda’s brings a smile to my face – so what an honour to be photographed by one of the top photographers in a location that makes me believe in fairies once again.

We got to use a stunning dress from Cherry Blossom Dresses, & it was the absolute dream.  It made me feel feminine & sexy at the same time, & fell so beautifully in all the pictures – I am sure you can agree that this was the absolute cherry on top of these gorgeous photos.

I was also extremely honoured to use flowercrowns from Opgedollie & Sunkissed Handmade in my shoots, which made for perfect branding images (given the name of my blog!) as well as bringing out my inner child.

This was an absolute dream come true, & I am forever grateful to Meghan for giving me this opportunity & for her absolute passion for taking stunning pictures.

If you are looking for a photographer in Joburg, & want to be made to feel like a beautiful woman – please contact Meghan.  Her talent speaks for itself.

Lola Lifestyle

Some time back I noticed a business on my feed called Lola Lifestyle.  I was immediately drawn to their one shirt that had gorgeous eyelashes printed across the chest & I knew it was a shirt I had to own!

And then I was helping my sister at FIBO with her Metafit, & who was a couple of stalls down from us, but the lovely ladies from Lola Lifestyle.  I saw for myself how popular they are, & got to feel the quality of their products, & then I immediately had a chat to this mother & daughter team about doing a feature on them.

Plus they gave me some inside info on a sale they will be having soon, so keep an eye on their page for more…

I see you’re a mum/daughter team – tell me more about how this business idea came about & what you both do within the business:  My mother has been manufacturing for the last 35 years. She started out with evening-wear and eventually progressed to manufacturing for local designers. I was in the film industry for 8 years as a clothing stylist. We saw there was a need for versatile clothing that looks good and feels comfortable. My mom is a sucker for amazing natural fabrics and this was the reason we started exploring our options with the bamboo. We both oversee all creative aspects of the brand. The team work is critical to make the dream work because we both still work 9 to 5 jobs in between running Lola.

Where are you based: We manufacture in Bezuidenhout valley in Johannesburg.

lola-148[1]

Where can people order/buy from: We have an online store and we have a few stockists, those change from time to time but the details are in our Instagram bio

What makes your clothing different to others: We take great pride in the quality, fabrics and fit of our garments. We want our consumers to put on that Lola item and feel like they can rule the world.

What is your personal favourite item: For Adele it will have to be the bamboo run jacket. This is her masterpiece. For Lene it’s definitely the lounge pants. Comfort is key.

What have been your most popular items: Our oversized shirt has exceeded our expectations. It’s such an amazing piece and looks good on everyone. Out tshirts have also done very well.

Why do you encourage people to support local: Supporting Lola Lifestyle is not only about supporting our dream. The manufacturing is done by local South Africans which means every piece of clothing you buy goes to supporting their families. That is the South African dream. That is also the only way we are going to grow our economy and create a better future

Isn’t this gorgeous?!  And don’t you want to own some of their stunning clothing for yourself?

If you do buy anything, please tag me in your look – I would love to see how you style it!  I have put a few things on my Christmas Wish List (yes, the lash shirt is one), so I hope Santa sees I have been a good girl this year.

Maria Cosmetics

I had heard the hype, I had tried the lipstick for myself, & then I watched this YouTube video about where the thought for Maria Cosmetics came from…

After I had brushed away my tears & taken a few deep breaths, I immediately reached out to Andrea to chat about this beautiful business.

Your name: Andrea Hurter

momsnightout-4238

Business name: Maria Cosmetics

Social media handles: Facebook, Instagram & Website

Tell me a bit more about what you do: Maria Cosmetics is a company that is focused on educating women on various topics. We saw that women are flocking to watch YouTube videos on Makeup and follow makeup accounts on Instagram. They know all about contouring and eyebrows, but they do not know what the HPV virus is or how to do a proper self-breast examination. We decided to breach that gap by creating a fun and glamorous makeup platform where women can come to for makeup tips, but also to learn about female health and various other topics regarding women.

momsnightout-4227momsnightout-4252

Have you always wanted to create your own makeup range: Never. I never even wanted to be a makeup artist. After school I went to study Theatre & Film Acting for 3 years. Thereafter I took a gap year where I traveled, waitressed and au paired. When my gap year was over I still wasn’t ready to be an adult. I went on to study a 1 year Journalism course which I didn’t enjoy (I think it wasn’t creative enough for me). Nevertheless I finished it. I’ve always been good at makeup since my mother was a makeup artist. I basically grew up with a makeup brush in one hand and a bottle in the other. I started doing makeup for some extra money. Word got out that I was good and so my business started. What a journey right?

What makes your makeup different to everyone else: The actual makeup: Our lipsticks are wax based. A lot of other lipsticks have fats or oils in them. Fats and oils are what makes lipsticks “go off” quicker. The wax base in the lipstick results in the lipstick staying on for very long, leaves a glamorous matte finish, but it doesn’t dry out the lips.

We also have a range of highlighters called the Hero Highlight (designed to highlight the Hero in you) This is a dual use creamy highlighter that can be used on the high points of the face such as the cheekbones, brow bone or cupids bow or it can be used as an eye shadow. The formula is creamy enough that it sticks to where it is placed and doesn’t leave you with an all over shiny face (like a kid who has had too many spare ribs).

180

But on the more important side. Even though our products are of high quality and we have put loads of love and care into each one, it is more than just how it looks when you put it on. We want women to carry our lipsticks in their handbag like a weapon. We want them to put on their lipstick like their war paint. It’s not just a lipstick. This is your sword. And no, you are no longer waiting for that prince on a white horse. Because girl, you ARE the warrior on the white horse. And THAT’S what makes our products different.

momsnightout-4182

Why do you encourage people to support local: Sjoh, this is a difficult topic. I can write a book. I feel like people that have never run their own business or started anything of their own, struggle to understand what goes on behind the scenes. It is an emotional rollercoaster. Your business is your child. And every time someone supports you, it’s like your child taking a step. Your child saying their first word. And so, every time someone supports local. They help your entrepreneurial child grow.

I know there is a special story behind why you started this – please tell me about this:  I was 19 years old when my mother got diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. She was only 49. I wasn’t too worried because “mother’s don’t get sick” and there was no doubt in my mind that she was going to beat this. She took everything in her stride and continued to be an amazing example for me. Later, she was really suffering from all the chemo she was receiving, but one thing she never stopped doing, was take pride in herself. She still continued to spray herself with her favourite perfume, she asked me to paint her nails in the hospital, she still wore makeup to her chemo treatments. She watched YouTube videos on how to exotically tie scarfs around your head and wore extravagant earrings with it calling herself “Esmeralda”. To me, she was even more beautiful than before. When I was 23, the cancer had spread to her brain and on the 22nd of August 2016 she sadly passed away. Of course I was devastated. I am an only child and my mother was my best friend. My whole life. I shared everything with her. I thought I was never going to recover from the pain. But from the pain, came something beautiful. I decided to never let her amazing legacy die. And so I started Maria Cosmetics. In the words from the song Vincent “This world was never meant for one as beautiful as you”
